When you think of recovery and justice, what do you see?

An estimated 50 million people are living in modern slavery globally.

Of trafficking victims detected globally, 38% are children and 54% are women and girls.

Criminals make an estimated $236 billion in annual profits from forced labour.

Behind every statistic is a person whose freedom has been stolen. To understand the true impact of exploitation, we must see it through their eyes.

Freedom from exploitation is only the beginning of a survivor’s journey. Recovery is rarely linear. It takes consistent, specialist support and trusted relationships that help survivors regain control, rebuild their lives and pursue justice. Yet too many people are left to navigate this journey without the support they need.

Our Victim Navigators provide bespoke, specialist support for survivors, helping them access the care and services they need, understand their rights and move forward with dignity.

We join forces with survivors, governments, police, prosecutors and global partners to ensure survivors are heard, cared for and receive the justice they deserve.

Behind the promise of love

Eight survivors. Five exploiters. 74 years in prison.

Through the women’s eyes, these looked like genuine relationships.

In reality, they were a trap.

In October 2025, one of the UK’s most significant modern slavery prosecutions resulted in five people being convicted of trafficking women for sexual exploitation in Scotland.

The offenders groomed dozens of women, including UK nationals, by leading them to believe they were in genuine romantic relationships. They then introduced them to crack cocaine at parties, creating dependency as a means of control.

Throughout the investigation and trial, our Victim Navigators stood alongside eight survivors, helping them understand what had happened to them, know their rights and find the strength to face their exploiters in court.

Despite the trauma they had endured and the pressure of cross-examination, the women bravely gave evidence. Their courage helped secure convictions and combined prison sentences totalling 74 years.

Behind this story is Cara**, who was supported by our Victim Navigators and now works alongside Justice & Care as a lived experience consultant.

Right now, more people like Cara are waiting for the support they need to recover and rebuild. Her story shows what is possible when survivors are believed, supported and empowered to reclaim their future.

More than 122,000 people are estimated to be victims of modern slavery in the UK, and the ‘lover boy’ technique experienced by Cara is regularly used to groom and exploit women.

Recognising the importance of lived experience, we work alongside survivors to who play a vital role in supporting their peers and shaping programme development to strengthen the quality of survivor care.

At Justice & Care, we empower individuals, families and communities impacted by modern slavery to live in freedom, we pursue those responsible for trafficking and create change at scale.

‘I am so grateful that I have been given this opportunity to be a voice for survivors, to help improve services and to hopefully make a difference to other people on their journey.

I never believed I’d be standing here today, telling my truth and sharing my story. The girl I was in 2022 would never believe the woman I’ve become in 2026. I have rebuilt my life.’
