Three traffickers convicted and sentenced to 15 years in Romania

May 12, 2023

Three traffickers have been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in jail resulting from Justice and Care’s work in Romania.

We have been supporting a 19-year-old Romanian survivor who was offered a job in the UK, but told she would be forced into sex work when she arrived.

She escaped after managing to contact her mum and we worked with the Romanian Embassy, police and the ANITP to arrange her safe repatriation and provide specialist aftercare.

Our Victim Navigator also helped to support another survivor – two of a number involved in this case.

A fourth defendant was given a suspended sentence of two years and six months. The sentences are pending appeal and this is the first result of three trials.
