Children returned home

September 21, 2021

Nineteen children are being returned to their families in Bangladesh today, thanks to the work of Justice and Care. The children, aged between 12 and 16, were trafficked to India, where many were sexually exploited.

Yesterday, we supported them to return across the border and will now offer ongoing care as they come to terms with what happened and rebuild their lives. Travel restrictions have meant that many have been kept in shelter homes in India, waiting to return home, and we have been working hard to speed up the process.

Justice and Care’s Country Director for Bangladesh, Tariqul Islam, said, ‘No one should ever go through what these children have experienced. It is heartbreaking to hear their stories. However, to get them home is a significant step on their journey to recovery and nothing takes away the joy of reuniting a family.’

‘We will now offer support to each of these children and their families – helping ensure that they get the counselling, education and practical care they need to stay safe.’

You can help us bring more children home by giving now.
