Rescued at the Port of Dover

May 19, 2020

A victim we have supported is Ioana, a Romanian girl in her late teens.

The police rescued her as she was being trafficked into the UK by an organised crime group. She was too afraid to speak to the police, but Ioana told our Victim Navigator that she had been forced to work in brothels and take drugs so that she would stay awake during the long hours.

Two of her traffickers were arrested on scene. Supported by our Navigator, Ioana has given key intelligence that has led to the identification of others in the criminal network.

Ioana has started English lessons and art therapy and is now positive about the future.
