Meet the team

At Justice & Care, our strength lies in the dedication, expertise and compassion of our people.

We are proud of our brilliant team who all share a deep commitment to building a world where no one lives in slavery.

James Clarry

Chief Executive

James was a supporter of Justice & Care for more than 10 years before joining in 2023 to lead the team. Before Justice & Care, he was Chief Operating Officer at Coutts, where he also led the bank’s work on diversity and inclusion. He has decades of experience in the legal and financial services sectors.

I have the best job in the world. It’s an honour to lead an outstanding team that is not only bringing meaningful change to so many people’s lives, but also creating real hope that this crime can be ended one day.

Jamie Fyleman

Managing Director

Jamie is our Managing Director – which means he has fingers in many pies at Justice & Care. He joined the team in 2017 to head up our fundraising and communications. He has a background in journalism and charity work and is driven by a strong thirst for justice.

When I first met a survivor of modern slavery I knew I needed to do all I could to fight the crime - it’s been a great privilege to be able to do that at Justice & Care.

Tariqul Islam

Country Director for Bangladesh

Tariqul is a global hero in the fight against human trafficking – and it’s not just us that thinks that. In 2022, he was named by the US State Department as one of their Trafficking In Persons Report Heroes for his tireless work fighting the crime in Bangladesh with Justice & Care. He has years of experience in the development sector, knows exactly how to drive widespread change and has led our Bangladesh work since 2017.

I remember the first time I helped a young victim to walk free from slavery - seeing her safe again and reunited with her family meant everything. I knew from then on that I wanted to dedicate my life to fighting this crime and I’m so proud of the impact we have at Justice & Care.

Naomi James-Davis

Global Director - Programme Strategy and Impact

Naomi brings an innovative outlook and a deep commitment to rigour and effectiveness – which makes her ideally suited to oversee the development of our global strategy and lead our impact measurement work. She is passionate about producing and leveraging evidence of what really works in the anti-trafficking space to inform programmes and systemic change. Naomi has worked in leadership positions in the non-profit space for more than 15 years across fundraising, project management and monitoring and evaluation.

Human trafficking deeply violates the value and dignity of every person. Justice & Care is focused on creating real, effective change through smart, systemic solutions—and I’m proud to be part of this global team working to make that happen.

Claire Walters

Finance Director

Claire is a Chartered Accountant who trained with a Big Four accountancy firm. She moved into the not-for-profit sector in 2020 and oversees our global finances.

James Thomas

Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees

James and his wife Julia founded Justice & Care in 2008 after their passion for fighting modern slavery was sparked by meeting young survivors in India. James was also a co-founder and a managing partner of independent private equity investment firm, Phoenix Equity Partners. In 2017, he was awarded the Beacon Award for Philanthropy, which celebrates individuals giving their time, expertise and resources to make the world a better place.

When I first heard about human trafficking, I was horrified - the brutality of the trade of people for profit, the extent of the issue and how those responsible were rarely held to account. My wife, Julia, and I knew we couldn't just walk away, that we had to do something.

Samantha Brewer

Trustee

Sam has been a trustee since 2024 and has a background in management consultancy and charity work. She currently works with a number of charities supporting projects across the world, working principally with young people.

As soon as I learnt that human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in our generation, I knew I couldn't stand by and watch.  We have the opportunity to change this legacy and I'm so grateful to join the Justice & Care team to fight for those who have lost their freedom.

Chris Coles

Trustee

Chris has a background in banking and development finance and joined Justice & Care as a trustee in 2024. He has held senior positions at Barclays Investment Bank and British International Investment. Chris now spends his time primarily on a portfolio of voluntary and philanthropic activities and set up Ready4SchoolRwanda in 2016.

Studying forced migration as part of a Masters’ Degree back in 2007 convinced me then that modern slavery is one of our greatest challenges. Supporting Justice & Care from its inception, initially as a supporter and now as a Trustee allows me to make a modest contribution to addressing some of those challenges, for what has become an increasingly complex social, economic and political issue.

Lucy Colman

Trustee

Lucy has a background in social policy and advocacy, with a focus on the issues surrounding modern slavery and adoption and fostering. She has spent time as a researcher in a think tank, a parliamentary speechwriter and leading policy and advocacy teams in a range of NGOs. She joined the Justice & Care team as a trustee in 2020.

I serve on the board of Justice & Care because I cannot tolerate the reality that people are still being enslaved today. Justice & Care’s innovation and relentlessness in tackling this crime drew me to the organisation, and it’s a privilege to be part of the team.

Jonathan Pugh-Smith

Trustee

Jonathan has been passionate abolitionist for more than 15 years and a trustee of Justice & Care since 2014. He has previously worked as a legal consultant for International Justice Mission (IJM) and with The Centre For Social Justice (CSJ) on modern slavery policy. In his spare time, he is General Counsel for a global private equity firm.

Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. It’s about the individual stories, dreams restored, lives transformed and justice delivered.

Eric Coutts

Chair - Ambassadors Group

Eric, former Chief Executive of Edmond de Rothschild UK, became our Chair of Ambassadors in 2024. He has had a long career in financial services and law and previously held positions at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. Today, he is the Chairman of The British School of Paris and is studying for a PhD in musicology.

Slavery, one of the fastest growing crimes today, cannot be allowed to develop around us ignored and unseen. I believe we can and must do everything possible to eliminate this shocking abuse of power which, no differently than in the eighteenth century, is more deeply embedded in our society than we feel comfortable to recognise/

Roger Best

Ambassador

Roger has been a proud supporter of Justice & Care since the charity was founded and became an ambassador in 2020. He has more than 40 years international experience with retail consumer businesses and has held leadership roles at Coloroll, Reebok, JD Sports and Radley. Roger now lives in Cornwall where he continues to mentor young entrepreneurs for the King’s Trust.

I am always confident that each pound and minute that I contribute to Justice & Care is used productively. It is an action-oriented charity that is genuinely rescuing lives.

Jeremy Brown

Ambassador

Jeremy is a founding Partner at Saranac Partners, which he joined in 2016 after serving as Managing Director at Kleinwort Benson. With deep expertise in investment management and family office services, he also acts as chairman of a client investment company and has served as trustee and advisor to families on structural planning and generational transitions. Justice & Care welcomed him as an ambassador in 2024.

I have been inspired by Justice & Care’s groundbreaking work and am delighted to be an ambassador.

Derek Mills

Ambassador

Derek has been an ambassador for Justice & Care since 2020. He overcame a challenging early start in life to build a career as a successful wealth management expert, helping entrepreneurs, FTSE100 companies, and global organisations unlock their full potential. He is also an author, an award-winning film producer and the creator of DailyStandards.com.

I am passionate about dedicating my time, influence and resources to fight against sex trafficking and slavery, advocating for the rights and freedom of victims worldwide.
